I am a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University. My research focuses on the dynamics of secession and the study of sovereignty, state systems, and international orders. I teach on topics related to nationalism, international relations, and international relations theory. My previous posts include the University of Sydney, Johns Hopkins University, Yale University, the Hertie School, and the Barcelona Institute for International Studies (IBEI).

I am currently writing a book about polarization and secession in the United States.
